When you’re running a business, it becomes easy for security to take a back seat. The biggest mistake businesses make is that they don’t take security seriously enough until there is a breach or an imminent threat. By that point, it’s too late.
We understand that every location is different and that they require different services to make themselves secure. Guarding a large warehouse will have different requirements than your typical corner shop, for example. However, no matter the size or nature of your business, there are a few mistakes that our experts come across time and again where the client is unnecessarily putting themselves at risk.
Mistake #1 – Having No Security
“No security!?”, we hear you ask. Well, you would be surprised how many premises have little to no security in place as they see it as an unnecessary spend. The truth is that no matter the size, location or value of your business, everyone is a target. Some are more targeted than others of course, but it is those who do not take security seriously who are hit the hardest when compromised.
Security is most effective when it is used as a preventative measure. So, it is of the utmost importance to have a system in place before an incident occurs, helping you to prevent and delay the worst from happening.
The type of solution you need of course differs from someone else, that’s why our experts are happy to take the time to understand your circumstances and work a solution that is perfect for your needs.
Mistake #2 – Not Carrying Out Regular Testing
Once you have a security system in place, regular testing ensures that it is ready and in the best working order to keep you safe when you need it. Simple battery checks and simple maintenance can often be the difference between safety and danger.
Regular checks and assessments do wonders for keeping your risk low. In short, as useful as security systems can be, they are made stronger by a vigilant and security-aware workforce. Of course, if you have manned guarding in place then security checks/maintenance is taken care of for you, but with a remote system vigilance, must continue.
Mistake #3 – Believing You’re Not a Target
Believe it or not, some businesses think that they are too small or don’t hold enough value to become a target of a security breach or robbery. However, denial is the poorest form of security and if you believe you’re not at risk, you aren’t taking security seriously enough.
Worse yet, so many organisations don’t even realise that they have been compromised until a while later because they have no stock count or recognition of their assets.
Although to some these might seem like obvious mistakes to make, it is often those who make those mistakes that are compromised. Each type of business will require different types of security depending on their location, the nature of their business and a range of other factors.
