Don’t Forget to Clean Your Mops!

Before the pandemic, taking proper care of mops was pretty overlooked. When finished mopping the floor, you would rinse your mop and allow to dry. However, due to the pandemic this practice isn’t the best.

Although professional cleaning solutions can prove effective at removing soils and even killing bacteria’s, water used for mop rinsing can become contaminated quickly is used repeatedly without changing or if surfaces are heavily soiled and/or have not been cleaned within the previous 24 hours. Then the water becomes the perfect way to spread germs and bacteria around.

Last April, the US CDC (Centre for Disease Control and Prevention) said the Novel Coronavirus could travel 13 feet through the air and be carried by people’s shoes. The report cited a hospital study showed that the virus can be tracked over the floor by medical staff. You can read more here

Have alternative heads on hand – it’s good to have several mop heads on hand when working, changing mop head frequently. Waiting for a mop head to “look” soiled is too late.

Wash your mop heads – although your mop is constantly being dunked into water to clean floors, that water will quickly become fill with harmful pathogens like Novel Coronavirus. So, it’s important to remove your mop heads after each clean and wash them. It’s also important to replace your mop heads.

Clean the pole – often one of the most overlooked areas, mop poles can collect pathogens too. To after each clean, wipe the pole down with virucidal product or anti-bacterial wipes.

Clean the bucket – Another area that is overlooked so it’s important that you follow the same steps used to clean the pole.

Depending on the size of the property and floor that needs to be cleaned, many professional cleaning providers have alternative ways to clean flooring such as rota washes and scrubbers.

The cleaning industry is very much viewed as the industry that has helped keep everyone safe and slow the spread of the Coronavirus. However, it takes more than just to effectively clean, it requires making sure that the tools used are clean and healthy too.
